The government’s plan to supply potable water to all hinterland communities remains on track as the Minister within the Ministry of Housing & Water, Susan Rodrigues, accompanied by Regional Chairman, Brian Allicock; Guyana Water Inc (GWI) Hinterland Service Director, Ramchand Jailall, and other technical staff, officially commissioned a $23 million water supply system in Quiko Village, located in South-Central Rupununi, Region Nine, a release from the ministry stated on Friday.
This new upgrade will increase water coverage in the community from 30 per cent to 98 per cent and is seen as a crucial step in improving water accessibility and ensuring that the village has access to clean and safe water.
Minister Rodrigues informed residents that work will begin in the coming weeks to ensure the remaining two per cent of residents are also covered.
