The strength within you

Swami Vivekananda, an Indian monk and philosopher, once said, “If you think yourselves strong, strong you will be.”

Thoughts have the power to shape actions, and your actions make you who you are. Growing up is nothing more than the meticulous process of curating your thoughts so that they produce powerful and positive actions. Every day, our experiences teach us a new way to view life and a different manner in which we can live it. As we grow and progress through life, many things around us change. However, there is one thing that should never waver. This is the confidence that we have in our own identities. Confidence is often described as a value that relates to how one views oneself. It is generally connected to one’s appearance or mannerisms. Although this is true to some extent, confidence is mainly about trusting oneself regardless of the situation.

Have you ever decided that you could not handle a task even before you began working on it? Have you felt like you could not win a competition before you even participated in it? Have you ever found yourself doubting whether you are deserving of the achievements you have made? Have you ever convinced yourself that you are not as strong as you truly are?

A certain amount of self-doubt is healthy, as it can lead to introspection and gradual self-development. Nevertheless, when you find that your self-doubt becomes an obstacle and not a tool, then it means that you must begin searching for confidence from within you.

Hidden away under layers of fear and doubt is a version of you that has carefully sculpted and built the life that you are living. Every sunrise that you have seen, every star that you have counted, and every single day that you have lived through are all witnesses to the magnificently strong person that you are. Once upon a time, each one of us was nothing more than a single cell composed of genetic matter from both of our parents. Since then, we have multiplied into more cells that make up a whole person. We have survived all odds and become individual human beings all through strength and determination. The moment we were born, we proved to the universe that we are powerful enough to face it. Our strength is inherent – we were strong and tenacious even before we were capable of thought. Trivial things such as failures or opinions will never change this fact.

Every day, try something that you have always believed you could not do. Attempt to break the misconceptions that you have about yourself so that eventually, when you face a seemingly impossible challenge, you will not have to wonder whether you will survive it or not.  There are golden crowns waiting on top of the mountains that we believe we can never climb. All it takes is a moment of confidence for us to look up and see them gleam. Let your confidence guide you towards great feats and let your knowledge and experience help you achieve them.
