The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has raised questions about accountability and proper governance in the Region Seven (Cuyuni/Mazaruni) administration over the issue of more than 100 people living rent free in government housing there since 2018, at the discretion of Regional Executive Officer (REO) Kerwin Ward.
According to the 2019 Auditor General’s Report being examined by the PAC, of 124 government living quarters in Region Seven, only nine occupants were paying rent. While three individuals were entitled to occupy the premises rent free, no documentation was provided to verify the circumstances of the remaining occupants.
