‘Champion of Champions’ Futsal
– North East, Back Circle, Gold is Money march on
Sparta Boss was pushed to the brink of elimination in the Bent Street ‘Champion of Champions’ Futsal Championship, following an unexpected 0-1 loss to North Ruimveldt on Saturday evening at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.
Fresh off their 1-1 draw with Back Circle B in their group opener, Sparta Boss was undone by a Tyrese Louis strike second in the 17th minute of the second stanza, which rolled through the legs of the goalkeeper and settled into the back of the net.
Sparta Boss will now require a victory in their final match against Team Cruel to keep their hopes alive of advancing to the elimination round.
Meanwhile, Back Circle A, Gold is Money, and North East La Penitence maintained their undefeated record following contrasting wins.
Back Circle demolished Street Vybz 5-0, led by a brace from Bevney Marks in the 11th and 15th minutes. Adding goals in the first, eighth, and 14th minutes respectively were Jermaine Beckles, Stephon McLean, and Ravin Naughton.
Gold is Money downed Linden All-Stars 2-0. Andrew Murray and Shamar Koulen registered conversions in the eighth and 13th minutes apiece.
Identically, North East La Penitence overcame Bent Street B 2-0. The combination of Donte McAulay and Kelvin Moore found the back of the net in the third and ninth minutes, respectively.
The winner of the event will pocket $1,000,000 and the championship trophy, while the second, third, and fourth-place finishers will receive $500,000, $300,000, and $200,000 and the corresponding accolade, respectively. On the individual side, prizes will also be given to the highest goal scorer, most valuable player, best defender, and goalkeeper, respectively.
