Four mini-excavators and a long-boom crane valued approximately $100 million have been handed over to communities in Region Five to assist in much-needed flood mitigation and desilting work.

According to a Ministry of Agriculture press release, Minister Zulifikar Mustapha handed over two mini excavators to the Mahaica/Mahaicony/Abary Agricultural Development Authority at Onverwagt, West Coast Berbice, which were procured under the ministry’s Flood Risk Management Project for approximately $27 million.

Mustapha disclosed that two young women who were trained under the Board of Industrial Training (BIT) programme have been employed as operators for the new excavators, the release said.
