(Trinidad Express) A female police officer is in critical condition at hospital after being shot multiple times in a botched carjacking in Caroni after midnight today.
Quianna Mahabir, 30, of Kelly Village, Caroni was shot through the right breast, right hand and twice in the head, according to initial reports.
Mahabir is attached to the Police Band.
She had just returned from a visit to New Jersey and New York in the United States, and The Bahamas, according to her Facebook profile.
On her Facebook profile, she is seen posing with Errol Fabien and Nikki Crosby.
Police were told that Mahabir was picked up at the Piarco International Airport and was being taken to her home.
When her vehicle arrived at the front gate to Mahabir’s house at around 1.19a.m., a following vehicle stopped nearby and two criminals ran into through the open gate.
One of the criminals tried opening the right front door where Mahabir was seated.
The door was locked.
Several shots were fired into the vehicle, hitting Mahabir.
The criminals fled. Moments later, Mahabir’s friend took her to the hospital in their vehicle.
She was taken to the Mt Hope Hospital and underwent emergency surgery.
