The Ministry of Public Works yesterday clarified recent media reports suggesting that $7.3 billion in roadworks is currently underway in Region 10.
It did not identify the media reports.
A release from the ministry said that during an appearance on a radio programme 104.3FM in Linden on Tuesday, Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill, stated that the “𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐚 𝐬𝐮𝐛𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧. 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐱𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝟏𝟔𝟓 𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐝𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐝, 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 $𝟕.𝟑 𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧. To date, contracts for 26 roads have been awarded for early 2024, and additional works will continue in a phased manner until all roads are completed, the release said.
