Three men were arrested during a Police intelligence-led operation at about 11.30 pm on Wednesday after the car they were in was intercepted and searched and two pistols and several rounds of ammunition were found.
The police yesterday said in a release that ranks from the CID special patrols, along with other ranks on anti-crime patrols, acting on information received proceeded to D’Urban Street between Mandela Avenue and John Street, where a silver grey Toyota Allion bearing registration number PAF 6829 was stopped with three occupants.
The driver of the vehicle gave his name as Negus Lamaizon, a 27-year-old security guard from Lot 61 D’Urban Street, Lodge. In the front passenger seat was 29-year-old Randolph Norton, a labourer from Lot 233 ‘A’ Field Sophia, and in the right side back passenger seat was 28-year-old Jamal Hazel, a labourer from Lot 490 ‘A’ Field Sophia.
The police said that a search on the three males unearthed nothing illegal, and a search was then conducted in the car and behind the deck of the vehicle, the following firearms and ammunition were found:
A Smith and Wesson .40 pistol, along with a magazine containing 13 rounds of .40 ammunition
A Glock 19 pistol with a magazine containing 18 rounds of 9mm ammunition
One white box containing 23 rounds of 9mm ammunition
The men were asked if they were licensed firearm holders, and they said no and subsequently denied knowledge of the firearms and ammunition. They were told of the offences committed, arrested and cautioned, and escorted to the East La Penitence Police Station, along with the firearms, ammunition and the motorcar, where the said firearms and ammunition were marked and sealed and taken to the Ballistics Section.
Lamaizon said the vehicle is owned by his mother, who lives in the USA.
The suspects were placed into custody, and investigations are being conducted.
