A pet monkey named Milo, has drawn widespread attention on social media after reportedly escaping during a recent home invasion. Attempts to locate the animal have been met with mixed reactions online.

A video had surfaced online of Milo’s visibly distraught owner sharing that the faithful pet had helped fight off the bandits that entered her home, as she called for his return.

When contacted yesterday by Stabroek News, Milo’s owner expressed frustration, accusing the public of not taking the search seriously. She voiced her distrust in the media, attributing the viral online posts to “Guinness World Record”-style sensationalism before ending the call.

The social media response has been largely supportive of Milo gaining his freedom, with many users posting in favour of the monkey remaining free after a photo surfaced of him chained to a post. In response, Milo’s owners shared videos and photos online showing him engaging in various activities in an attempt to counter accusations of mistreatment.

However, despite these efforts, many remain unconvinced, and the debate over Milo’s welfare continues online.
