Despite claims made by the family of the 18-year-old motorcyclist, Tevin Griffith, who was suspected to be speeding along Mandela Avenue in the vicinity of Pineapple Street, East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, when he died on the night of October 22, there is no evidence to suggest another person was involved in the accident.

This is according to the Regional Commander, Assistant Commissioner Simon McBean, who said yesterday that this conclusion was based on investigations carried out by the police.

He also disclosed that on October 21 and 22, Griffith received tickets and a warning from the police for reckless riding on the road and failing to wear a safety helmet.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a group of motorcycles was proceeding west along Mandela Avenue at about 20.45 hours on Tuesday, October 22, at a fast rate. None of the riders was wearing a safety helmet. Griffith, a mechanic of Lot 3420 Stevedore Housing Scheme, Georgetown, who was part of the group, was lying flat on his motorcycle and proceeding in the same direction at a fast rate when he lost control and collided with the guardrail. As a result, he was flung on the roadway sustaining multiple injuries in the process. He was pronounced dead on the scene by emergency responders.
