‘Champion of Champions’ Futsal
An evening of upsets highlighted the final group stage round in the inaugural ‘Champion of Champions’ Futsal Championship, as powerhouses Bent Street A and Sparta Boss were eliminated on Friday at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.
Bent Street A lost to Mocha 2-3 in a must-win encounter. Devon Padmore bagged a brace in the third and sixth minutes, with Teon Jones completing the score with an eighth-minute strike. For Bent Street A, the duo of Tyrese Lyle and Colin Nelson scored in the second and fifth minutes apiece.
Meanwhile, Sparta Boss was sent packing from the event, despite dismantling Team Cruel 6-1 in a must-win encounter.
Darron Niles amassed a brace in the eighth and 10th minutes, alongside a Curtez Kellman double in the first and 20th minutes. Jermin Junior and Eusi Phillips added to the score in the 16th and 21st minutes. For the loser, Jemar Harrigon scored in the 22nd minute.
Sparta Boss then required North Ruimveldt to lose against Back Circle B. However, Sparta’s exit was confirmed as North Ruimveldt humbled Back Circle B 5-0. Stephon Walton led the rout with a helmet trick in the first, fifth, 22nd, and 25th minutes, with Tyrese Louis adding to the score in the sixth minute.
On the other hand, North East La Penitence downed Back Circle A 3-0 in a top of the table clash. Also, Gold is Money maintained their undefeated streak with a 3-0 win over California Square in a battle of the undefeated sides. Stephon Jupiter, William Europe, and Andrew Murray etched their names on the score-sheet in the 10th, 17th, and 19th minutes, respectively.
The winner of the event will pocket $1,000,000 and the championship trophy, while the second, third, and fourth-place finishers will receive $500,000, $300,000, and $200,000 and the corresponding accolade, respectively. On the individual side, prizes will also be given to the highest goal scorer, most valuable player, best defender, and goalkeeper, respectively. Below is the complete list of results.
