In a drug-related operation early Friday morning, members of the Guyana Police Force apprehended two individuals and confiscated 285.9 grammes of cannabis at a residence in Arakaka, Region One.
According to a police press release, the operation commenced around 5:50 am when a team of officers executed a cordon and search exercise at the home and business premises of Donette Richards, 56, and her son, Michael Richards, 32, a taxi driver. According to the release, both individuals consented to the search when approached.
During the search, it added, Michael Richards handed over a bulky black plastic bag from a kitchen shelf, stating, “Boss, this is what I get in here.” The bag contained a substantial quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems, which appeared to be cannabis wrapped in transparent plastic.
Both suspects were informed of the police’s suspicions regarding the contents of the bag and cautioned accordingly. However, both chose to remain silent during the proceedings, the release said. They were subsequently arrested and transported to the Arakaka Police Outpost for further processing.
At the outpost, the suspected narcotics were weighed in the presence of both mother and son, confirming a total of 285.9 grammes. The items were then sealed, marked, and securely lodged as evidence, the release added.
Authorities have indicated that investigations are ongoing, with both suspects currently in custody.
