Two men wanted by the police were apprehended on Saturday afternoon during an operation at Kairuni Backdam along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway.
According to a police press release by Guyana Police Force, Ghanie Jamie, 26, of South Sophia, Georgetown, and Hansi Jones, 27, also of Sophia, were wanted on serious charges. The former on murder allegations, the latter in connection with three counts of child rape.
At approximately 4 pm, acting on credible information, officers descended on the location where the suspects were believed to be hiding, the release said. On sighting the police, the men attempted to flee the scene, leading to a swift foot chase. Jones was captured after falling to the ground, while Jamie was apprehended about 25 metres away, it added.
