Kaieteur Attack Racing Cycle Club’s Jamual John had an exceptional weekend in the saddle, capturing wins across two cycling events yesterday and Saturday.
John stormed to victory in his club’s annual event, the Fireworks Race’ at the Kingston Seawall Bandstand. He also won the Elite Class event at the Flying Ace Memorial event on Saturday.
At the fireworks event, which was staged along the roadways of the Kingston Seawalls, Jamual stormed to clinch victory in a typical dominant fashion, relegating Robin Persaud to second place while Cortis Dey, Christopher Griffith, Briton John, Paul DeNobrega, Marlon Williams, and Paul Choweenam were third through eighth in that exact order.
Alexander Leung, however, won first place in the junior event, while Alex Newton was second. Roy Mangru was the winner of the Category 4-5 race, with Denise Jeffrey winning the female category. On Saturday, he fought off stern challenges from Briton and Dey, who had to settle for second and third, respectively.
Newton got one over long-time rival Leung when he took the junior category, with Leung having to be content with second place.
The next cycling event, which is set for the upcoming weekend, will see Guyana playing host to the Caribbean Elite Cycling Championships, with cyclists from over 19 Caribbean countries set to grace the roadways of Guyana.
