Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Andre Ally,  on Friday handed over the contract for the reconstruction of the Anna Regina Police Station to Builders Hardware, General Supplies and Construction.

A release from the Ministry of Home Affairs said that the contract is valued at $185,865,689 and will modernize the station, providing a safer, more functional space for officers.

Ally was on a tour of projects in Region Two. The release said that the Permanent Secretary proceeded to the Charity Stelling, where he inspected an area earmarked for the construction a new boathouse and wharf for the Guyana Police Force.

Recognizing the challenges of patrolling Region Two’s extensive waterways, the planned facility will significantly bolster the police presence and response capabilities on the Essequibo Coast and along the Pomeroon River.

Ally also visited the construction site for the Charity Fire Station, currently 70 percent complete. It is being constructed by Gavko Construction at a cost of $144,887,000 and will bolster the region’s emergency infrastructure.

At the Anna Regina Fire Station,  Ally was given a tour of the facility. Currently, the Anna Regina Fire Station is the sole fire station on the Essequibo Coast. Once the Charity Fire Station is completed, it will provide crucial support, significantly improving response times and enhancing the firefighting capabilities of the Guyana Fire Service, the release added.

In an unscheduled visit to the Aurora Police Station, Ally met with the Officer in Charge, discussing regular operations and challenges specific to the area.
