Dear Editor,
Jagdeo thinks he is clever. He knows the PPP is at risk of losing the 2025 national elections. He has no interest in a new voters list and biometrics for next year’s elections. He hatched a plan to find out how bad the PPP election prospects will be. He promised every Guyanese age 18 and over, 100.000 Guyana dollars. Guyanese got excited. The Vice President went further than that, he subsequently said that overseas based Guyanese are eligible for the planned cash handouts but they have to come to Guyana.
Here is where Jagdeo thinks the opposition and people of Guyana are donkeys. He has not decided when the monies will be given to citizens because the PPP has to put a robust system in place in order that there will be no underhand business with the handouts. The PPP is in the process of building an app; a locator app that will gather data on citizens such as where they live, where they work, which party they support and whether they have a criminal record, etc. It sounds to me as if the PPP is the new GECOM without opposition commissioners.
Let me be serious when I say that no government should offer citizens grants at the expense of their privacy. Jagdeo and Ali think the Guyanese people are hungry bellies living on a PPP plantation. Citizens of Guyana must be allowed to go to the post office in their area with valid identification and uplift the free taxpayers money they deserve. One hundred thousand Guyana dollars cannot be considered as life changing for anyone. The PPP wants access to information that only GECOM should have and that must not be allowed to happen.
Finally, the rich PPP supporters in the US, UK and Canada will get their flight money back to go home and vote PPP. That’s what the hundred thousand will be to them. The majority of Guyanese are educated, decent and religious people that have pride and dignity and the PPP must know that it is laughable and downright hypocrisy for Jagdeo and Ali to say anything about guarding against corruption. Can you imagine promising someone that you will definitely give them something but you don’t know when you plan on giving it to them?
Sincerely
