The Supreme Court of Judicature of Guyana yesterday said that it has completed the implementation of the e-litigation web portal for the Court of Appeal and High Court.

The soft launch of the e-litigation portal for the Court of Appeal occurred on January 30, 2024, and the soft launch for the High Court occurred on October 4, 2024.

The Supreme Court in a release advised that with effect from November 1, 2024, cases can be filed from the law offices of attorneys-at-law, while self-represented litigants and attorneys-at-law who need assistance can file at the service bureau established at the Court of Appeal and the High Court registries in Demerara, Essequibo, and Berbice.

The release said that the e-litigation system allows court customers and stakeholders access to the portal at www.ejudiciary.supremecourt.gy at anytime, anywhere, and on any device including smartphones, tablets, laptops, and desktops. The e-litigation portal includes the following features: a dedicated portal for judicial officers, access for attorneys-at-law and litigants, electronic filing, electronic notifications, electronic case management, workflow management, creation of trial bundles and the generation of reports and analytics.

The e-litigation system provides for the electronic filing and management of cases in and through the various registries of the Court of Appeal and High Court, including the Family Court and Land Court. This new system, the release said, has replaced the paper-based filing system for all new matters filed on or after January 30, 2024 for the Court of Appeal and 15:00 hrs on October 4, 2024 for the High Court. A user guide of the elitigation system will be available for download from the Supreme Court’s website at www.supremecourt.gy.

“This system revolutionises access to justice and allows for public searches of cases on the portal. Feedback so far has been positive and the Court looks forward to the cooperation of all stakeholders in the operation of this new system”, the release added.
