The Essequibo Coast Praant Dharmic Naujawan and Spring Garden Mandir were the winners of this year’s Diwali motorcade in Region Two.
Dharmic Naujawan took first place with their creative designs in the large category, while Spring Garden Mandir claimed first in the small category.
In the large category, Queens-town Gyaan Sagar Mandir came in second, followed by New Road Mandir in third.
In the small category, Spring Garden Mandir took first place, with Airy Hall Mandir in second, Affiance Mandir in third, Hibernia Mandir in fourth, Better Success Mandir in fifth, and Siriki Mandir Pomeroon in sixth position. The Mahadeo family from Golden Fleece also participated, supporting the motorcade.
The mandirs were judged on punctuality, originality, illumination, creativity, depiction, attire, overall appearance, and the appropriate use of music.
Addressing a large crowd on Friday evening at the Anna Regina Car Park, President of the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha (GHDS), Dr. Vindhya Persaud, noted that the GHDS is celebrating its 50th anniversary. She expressed pride in the participation of many mandirs.
Region Two Chairperson Vilma De Silva also expressed her happiness at being part of the motorcade, noting that the event fosters unity.
Mahindra Sharma, a member of the Spring Garden Mandir, mentioned that they always look forward to participating in the motorcade and even hope to showcase their float in other regions. He added that the youths were eager to help and spent many days preparing the float.
Arvin Singh, who contributed to the creation of the Essequibo Dharmic Naujawan float, acknowledged the challenges faced but praised the team’s dedication that led to their victory.
The roads were filled with spectators who gathered to admire the floats.
