A man accused of stabbing 26-year-old Mashabo resident Rayandra Abrams aka Bruce to death on Monday in an ongoing row over $15,000, has been arrested by the police after hiding out for a few days.

Police in Essequibo said that they have taken Dinesh Samaroo into custody in connection with the murder. The police said the incident stemmed from Samaroo accusing the deceased, his cousin, owing him $15,000. The incident occurred at Mashabo Housing Scheme located north of the Mashabo Mission.

According to Trishon Charles, a barber, on Monday 28th October 2024 about 08:00 hrs, Abrams went to his home to have his hair cut.

Charles related that later, he and Abrams went to Omar’s house and were liming. At about 10:00 hrs, he added, Omar went into the backdam to cut wood leaving them at his house.

He said that at about 12:30 Abrams said he was going home. Charles said he also went home where he had something to eat. When he came out, as he was walking on the Mashabo access road, he saw Abrams and Samaroo standing on the western side of the road arguing.

He said Samaroo had a black-handle knife in his hand and he was threaten-ing Abrams. Charles claimed that he told Abrams to go home, but Abrams insisted that he was staying.

Charles said he walked away, but had only gone about 120 feet, when he heard Abrams shout out for him. Looking back, he saw Abrams holding his neck, which was bleeding. He said he rushed to him and saw Samaroo, with the same knife in his hand, jump onto his motorcycle and ride off.

Abrams was taken to the Suddie Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

His mother Sonia Abrams related that her son and Samaroo had an ongoing problem over $15,000 which Samaroo claimed her son had owed him over a month ago. She said that she was sad over her son’s death.

His body is currently at the Suddie Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
