Issues that began at a football game sometime ago have now resulted in the death of a Kaneville teen who was stabbed several times by a 15-year-old on Friday at about 16.30 hours at Samatta Point Grove, East Bank Demerara.
Dead is Dowance Demonick of Lot 657 Kaneville, East Bank Demerara. The 15-year-old student of Kaneville is currently in custody. Reports are that the 15-year-old suspect and the deceased were known to each other. According to the police, for some time now, the two teens had an ongoing problem over issues that started at a football game.
Sandra Edwards, a 61-year-old businesswoman of Samatta Point, told police that at about 15.30 hours on Friday, Demonick left home on a bicycle for an unknown location. At about 16.00 hours, he was seen by another resident crossing a wooden bridge in the village. He was followed by the 15-year-old suspect and the suspect’s brother.
It is reported that Demonick was armed with a piece of wood at the time, and subsequently he and the suspect ended up in a scuffle where they both fell on the ground. It was at that point that the suspect, who was armed with a pair of scissors, stabbed Demonick several times, while the suspect’s brother, who was armed with a hockey stick, struck the victim several times while he lay on the ground.
Demonick was taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre and pronounced dead on arrival. It was observed that he had sustained several stab wounds. His body is at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
The 15-year-old suspect who was also injured, was taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where he was treated for injuries suffered to the left side of his head. He was subsequently arrested at the hospital and a video and audio interview was conducted with the suspect in the presence of his 38-year-old father. Meanwhile, statements were also taken from other witnesses.
Further investigations are underway.
On October 29, twelve-year-old Kareem Durant, a student at Carmel Secondary School and of D Field Sophia, Georgetown was fatally stabbed and an 11-year-old boy is in custody the police said.
