Sisters held at Itaballi Landing over ganja

At about 10 pm on Thursday, Police ranks stationed at the Itaballi Police Checkpoint acted on information received and proceeded to a shop at Itaballi Landing, in Region 7 and arrested a businesswoman and her sister over marijuana.

Upon arrival, the ranks made contact with the shop owner, 53-year-old Susan Miguel and her 37-year-old sister, Coreena Miguel, the police said in a release.

The ranks requested permission to search the building for drugs, firearms, and ammunition, which was granted. A search of the shop yielded no findings. However, during a further search outside the shop, approximately two feet away on the northern side under a water trestle, Police found a five-gallon bucket which was opened, revealing three brown compressed parcels containing a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.

The release said that Police informed the women of their suspicions and the offence committed, then cautioned and arrested them. Both Susan and Coreena denied knowledge of the suspected narcotics. They were subsequently escorted to the Bartica Police Station, where the cannabis was weighed in their presence, amounting to 3,060 grams. The sisters  are in custody at the Bartica Police Station, assisting with the investigation.
