Mr Rahaman exercised his democratic right to present his views

Dear Editor,

This letter is with respect to Mr. Gokarran Sukhdeo’s letter, in Stabroek News of October 9th, 2024, titled `Vote for Trump and you are aiding and abetting ignorance and dictatorship.’

I’m in agreement with almost all of Mr. Sukhdeo claims. However, may I state that Mr. Fuad Rahaman exercised his democratic right to present his views. Labeling those who vote for Trump as “aiding and abetting ignorance and dictatorship,” makes a statement about Mr. Sukhdeo, not about any voter.

Burnham and his “sharper steel” goon squad denied Guyanese, almost entirely Indians, of their basic human/democratic rights. Mr. Sukhdeo is attempting to “Burnham” the rights of those who would vote for the Republican Party. For your information, Mr. Gokarran Sukhdeo, I have voted, by mail, and I voted for the Republican Party. My rights will not be curtailed by anyone and your attempt to denigrate me tells me about you.

On Facebook, Mr. Sukhdeo states: “And finally I say: voting for someone with a terrible character tells a lot about your character.”

To which I reply: your statement, Mr. Sukhdeo, tells about your character.

Several decades ago, in Guyana, it was observed that, the USA’s foreign policy, principally with respect to underdeveloped countries, remains unchanged, irrespective of which Party is in the White House. Righteousness resides in neither party.

Several months ago, on Facebook, I offered a comment about Fareed Zakaria. My comment was contested by Mr. Sukhdeo and a former QC student, whose initials are MK. Mr. Sukhdeo sought to assign credibility to Mr. Zakaria, based on the fact that he’s a graduate of Yale and Harvard. So was George Bush (43rd President). Some of you may recall that reference was often made of Karl Rove as Bush’s brains. Bush’s expressions, on several occasions, leaves one to wonder, what/who does Harvard and /or Yale release onto the unsuspecting public. I will name another one, Larry Summers, who was not only a graduate of Harvard, but also its former president. As president of Harvard, Mr. Summers made an utterly spurious and derogatory remark about women. There is much to wonder about graduates of prestigious institutions, including QC. Mr. Sukhdeo’s assessment of a person, as a function of their alma maters (almae matres) is seriously flawed. This calls into question, his assessments in general.

Yours faithfully,
Zamir
