Dear Editor,
The rejection and silence on the proposed referendum to vote on changing the PSA with Exxon is confirmation of the lack of concern for our citizens’ purse. Whose will is Parliament carrying out? That of the people or that of their own? It would appear that the population of our nation is now being subjected to the personal desires of those in Government. The question is why? The power of the vote remains, but it has been taken for granted. Will the President step in and ensure that our citizens will gain a comfortable existence by getting a fair share of the income earned from their resources? Or will those who have fallen from grace continue to exercise undue influence and control over the will of others? The strong must show their strength and the will of the people must be sought out, respected and embraced.
With the establishment of monthly income from the NRF our citizens will not need to struggle to make ends meet. They will also be able to afford the necessities to take care of themselves and their families. The government has its purpose, but the level of corruption is beyond control as seen in recent events. This has made it urgent that we as a people insist on taking control of our allotment of earnings from our natural resources. If not, the few will continue to flourish and the many will remain dependent on trickledown economics that trickles to a drop in the current corrupt system. The political class needs to be held accountable and the judiciary must act accordingly. The unwillingness shown to date in the protection of democracy and our electoral system leaves much to be desired. Only our citizens can change the current path of our country.
Stand up and demand justice and the right to a comfortable existence, or remain in the servitude of those who embrace the corrupt practices of exploitation by foreigners.
Sincerely,
