The Guyana Harpy Eagles crashed to their second defeat in three games, losing by a wicket to the Barbados Pride yesterday at the Queen’s Park Oval, Trinidad and Tobago.
The defeat means that they are yet to secure any points after their last game was abandoned due to rain.
Batting first, the Harpy Eagles were skittled for just 203 in just over 47 overs as the Bajans put in a concerted effort, with four bowlers sharing nine wickets amongst them.
From the Guyanese batting line-up, Kevlon Anderson’s 72-ball 52 was the highlight, as most of the top order got starts but failed to bat on when it mattered. Opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul (34), skipper Tevin Imlach (35) and Keemo Paul (25) looked good, but aside from them, no one else stood up and the rest of the batting order imploded.
Javed Leacock was the standout bowler for Barbados, capturing 3-43 from his quota of 10 overs, while Nyeem Young, Jomel Warrican, and Dominic Drakes had two wickets each.
Chasing 204 for victory, Barbados almost made a meal of the run-chase barely getting over the line with a wicket and three balls to spare.
Richards’ unbeaten 65 was the cornerstone of the successful chase, as his innings spanned 121 balls and included five fours and a six. Other handy contributions came from Kyle Mayers (22) and Nyeem Young, who made 30 at the latter end of the innings.
Ashmead Nedd turned in a commendable bowling effort with his left arm spin, returning 3-43 (10 overs). Kevin Sinclair, Keemo Paul, Chanderpaul, Veerasammy Permaul, and Kevlon Anderson took a wicket each, albeit in a losing effort.
The Guyanese will come up against the Leeward Islands Hurricanes tomorrow at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba.
