Around 17 houses wrecked by winds at Karasabai

A powerful wind storm swept through the South Pakaraimas village of Karasabai on Sunday, wreaking havoc and destroying approximately 17 homes, according to the Regional Democratic Council.

The storm displaced around 30 individuals and left five people injured, including three children. All injured parties received prompt medical attention at the Karasabai Health Centre and are staying with friends and family according to the Facebook page, KARASABAI Home of the Sun Parakeets.

In response to the disaster, the Regional Democratic Council dispatched a team yesterday to assess the extent of the damage and determine necessary support for those affected. Additionally, Minister of Amerindian Affairs, Pauline Sukhai, along with a team from the Civil Defence Commission, visited Karasabai yesterday to evaluate the situation firsthand.
