Following an operation conducted by the Guyana Police Force yesterday, a Bartica businessman and his wife are now in custody after a  quantity of drugs was found at their residence.

According to a police release, around 2:30 pm, ranks, under the guidance of an Assistant Superintendent, arrived at the residence of 44-year-old Collin Obermuller, a well-known miner and businessman, at Lot 53 Third Avenue, Bartica, Region 7. Acting on intelligence, the ranks conducted a search of the premises for drugs, arms, and ammunition. Although no illegal item was initially found within the home, officers extended their search to the backyard, a secured area bordered by zinc and concrete.

During the search, officers noticed an area of “disturbed ground” near a cherry tree, prompting further investigation. Digging into the spot, the ranks unearthed a concealed five-gallon bucket with a yellow cover. Inside, they discovered, a multi-coloured parcel containing leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis, with a weight of 362 grams, a transparent plastic bag containing a whitish substance suspected to be cocaine, weighing 25 grams, a clear plastic bottle containing thirty-eight zip-lock bags, suspected to contain amphetamine, weighing 24 grams.

Additionally, a further search of the premises revealed eleven zip-lock bags containing a whitish substance, also suspected to be cocaine, with a total weight of 62 grams.

Following the discoveries, both Obermuller and his wife were cautioned, informed of the suspicions against them, and taken into custody. They are currently assisting with further investigations at the Bartica Police Station.
