Fisherman shot at River View

The police are investigating the discharging of a firearm at Zahier Hossein, a 36-year-old fisherman from River View Ruimveldt, Georgetown, which occurred at about 23:00 hrs yesterday at River View. Police have since arrested the 30-year-old suspect.

According to a press release from the police yesterday, investigations so far revealed that the suspect and the victim are known to each other. According to the victim, on the date and time mentioned, the victim was standing in front of Zico Shop, which is located on the southern side of River View access road, when he saw the suspect approaching on a red and white motorcycle.

The suspect stopped in front of the shop, and he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. An argument broke out shortly after between the suspect and another man in front of the shop.

The suspect, who was armed with a handgun, discharged several rounds, two of which hit the victim on his right and left thighs.

The suspect then jumped onto his motorcycle and rode away from the scene. The victim was escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital by police ranks where he was examined by a doctor and admitted as a patient in the male medical ward. His condition is listed as stable. Investigations are ongoing.
