Soldier indicted for murder of hairdresser gets time to retain counsel

Justice Zamilla Ally-Seepaul yesterday granted an adjournment to murder accused Collin Hazel after he requested additional time to retain counsel.

Hazel, a Corporal of the Guyana Defence Force, was unrepresented when he appeared in the courtroom, at the Berbice Assizes yesterday.

No date has been fixed for the hearings.

The soldier was charged with the murder of Donale-sa Parks on June 30, 2022.

Parks, a mother of an underage child, had left her East Canje, Berbice home to plait a client’s hair. It was stated, the client cancelled the appointment. The following day her relatives became concerned d over her delayed absence, and frantic telephone calls were made to friends and relatives.

Subsequently, relatives travelled to Hazel’s home, and, as they were awaiting transportation along the roadway, an item belonging to the now deceased was observed. After which the startling discovery was made of the lifeless body of the twenty-nine-year-old.
