-six men on three motorbikes accosted guard
Police in Regional Division 4C have apprehended two suspects who were allegedly involved in separate armed robberies on the East Coast of Demerara on Monday night.
The first incident took place around 18:50 hours at a barbershop in Clonbrook, Mahaica. During this robbery, a 30-year-old barber and two customers were targeted by four men. One suspect entered the barbershop first, requesting a haircut, before the remaining three, masked and armed men with what appeared to be pistols, entered shortly after. The armed men pointed the weapons at the victims and relieved them of their valuables including two gold chains valued at one million dollars and $25,000 in cash from the barber, as well as $180,000 and two mobile phones from the customers.
Following the robbery, an alarm was raised, and all police patrols were alerted. The vehicle used by the suspects was spotted in BV, leading to a pursuit by a bike patrol. The car eventually stopped, and while the suspects fled on foot, police managed to arrest the driver. Efforts are ongoing to locate the other suspects involved in this robbery
The second robbery occurred at approximately 20:30 hours along Ogle Embankment, East Coast Demerara. A 25-year-old female security guard was approached by six men on three motorcycles who pointed what appeared to be a firearm at her. The suspects robbed her of $25,000 in cash, a gold chain, and a cell phone valued at $60,000 before fleeing the scene. Shortly after this incident, police arrested one suspect, a 17-year-old.
Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
