Man gets nine months for stealing ministry’s batteries

A man was yesterday sentenced to nine months imprisonment for stealing two batteries belonging to the Ministry of Home Affairs after he pleaded guilty before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Winston Philips stood before the court to answer to the charge, it was alleged that  on November 3, 2024 at Brickdam, Georgetown he stole two batteries valued at $120,000, property of the ministry. He pleaded guilty. The magistrate enquired as to how he gained access to the premises.  Philips,  his speech slurred, was unable to  formulate sentences.  He however managed to tell the magistrate that he had been caught with the items and that they were returned.

As a result he was sentenced to  nine months.
