Some 200 families in Block 42, Amelia’s Ward, Linden, Region Ten, will soon be able to process ownership documents for lands they have occupied for decades.
According to a release from the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA), this was announced by Minister within the Ministry of Housing and Water, Susan Rodrigues, during an engagement with the community, earlier yesterday. She was accompanied by Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Water (MoHW), Bishram Kuppen; Chief Executive Officer of the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA), Sherwyn Greaves; Regional Executive Officer, Dwight John; Prime Ministerial representative, Derrick Wilson; and other regional representatives.
Rodrigues told the residents that this initiative has been months in the planning, and the groundwork has already been laid, with the occupational survey having been completed and submitted to the Ministry’s Planning Department for design layout. Additionally, Guyana Water Inc has conducted its assessment of the area to meet the residents. needs.
She noted that while there has been considerable media focus on house lot allocations, the regularisation of informal settlements is also a key component of the government’s manifesto promises. She pointed out that President Ali’s Operation Clean-up initiative has effectively addressed regularisation issues in Blueberry Hill and Amelia’s Ward.
As such, the minister called on residents to cooperate as the process progresses. “The process aims to be humane and will involve the relocation or boundary adjustment of some houses.”
Rodrigues also urged residents to ensure that no new occupants move into the area during this time.
Meanwhile, Greaves informed residents about plans for a health centre and nursery school in the area. “The process has started, and we will return to initiate the signing of titles; this will create generational wealth for residents.”
The upcoming exercise, expected to commence soon.
