Defending champion Samuel Foo won the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF)-administered Special Education Needs Students Championship, which was conducted at the David Rose Special School in Thomas Lands, Georgetown.

This was disclosed by a release from the GCF. Foo, who hails from the New Amsterdam Special Needs School, relegated David Rose Special School’s Deon Smith and Troy Scott of the Linden Special Education Needs Centre to second and third place, respectively. Abigail Jairam, who finished fourth, secured the best female accolade.

The event, which comprised 17 students, of which six were females, featured participation from David Rose Special School, Diamond Special Needs School, Linden Special Education Needs Centre, St. Barnabas Special School, and New Amsterdam Special Needs School.

According to the release, “Ms. Sabine McIntosh, head of the GCF Special Needs Committee, led the day’s activities, guiding students as they showcased their chess abilities in a spirited tournament. The competition, designed to foster intellectual growth and inclusivity, encouraged students to apply the skills they developed during training sessions conducted by their teachers through the GCF.”
