The Ministry of Housing and Water’s Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) yesterday concluded its landmark 50th “Dream Realised” housing drive, successfully allocating lands to 450 individuals at De Endragt-Phase 2 and La Bonne Intention-Phase 3, East Coast Demerara, a CH&PA release announced.
The CH&PA came close to achieving its target of 500 allocations.
The exercise which saw the 450 allottees become proud moderate-income landowners in the newly developed De Endragt-Phase 2 and La Bonne Intention (LBI)-Phase 3 Housing Schemes, East Coast Demerara, was held at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre in Liliendaal, Greater Georgetown.
Attendees at the event included Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal; Minister within the Ministry of Housing and Water, Susan Rodrigues; Permanent Secretary, Bishram Kuppen; CH&PA Chief Executive Officer, Sherwyn Greaves; and Chairman of the La Reconnaisance Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC), Jagroop.
In his remarks during the ceremony, Croal spoke of the government’s substantial investment in the housing sector to enable Guyanese families to achieve land and homeownership in fully developed communities.
“In four years we have invested over $62 billion in infrastructure work on the East Coast of Demerara and for this year alone, on our budget, about $32 billion is being spent on the East Coast of Demerara in areas such as Good Hope, LBI, Lusignan, Non Pariel, Enterprise, et cetera.”
So far, the current government has developed 74 new housing schemes with nearly half located on the East Coast of Demerara. Additionally, it is constructing 3,560 houses across the country, with 1,042 of these on the East Coast, and of the 38,000-plus house lot allocations nationwide, more than 15,000 were allocated on the East Coast alone.
Meanwhile, Rodrigues spoke about the impact of land allocation on families, highlighting the long-term potential for generational wealth.
“Giving you and your family a [house] lot has the effect of multiplying for years to come… You will forever change the trajectory of your family by creating intergenerational wealth.” She reiterated that the government’s vision for every Guyanese is not just a dream, but an action-driven goal that includes building new infrastructure, ensuring clean water access, and partnering with financial institutions to make homeownership more accessible.
Jagroop applauded the initiative as a powerful step towards transforming the community and creating opportunities for residents and declared the “Dream Realised” initiative as a landmark achievement in the government’s commitment to uplifting communities across Guyana.
