Jury finds duo guilty in 2020 stabbing murder

Kaprese Nobrega

Kaprese Nobrega and Shay Carter were yesterday found guilty by a jury in the 2020 killing of Kevin Campbell. Sentencing was deferred to December 2, pending a probation report and victim impact statements.

The incident took place on March 21, 2020, when Nobrega was involved in an altercation with Brandon Smith at Smith’s home, during which he allegedly stabbed Smith twice. Nobrega then left the premises but returned shortly afterward with a group of men, including Carter, to search for Smith. Unable to find him, they encountered his brother, Kevin Campbell, instead.

Witnesses testified that Carter dragged Campbell from the house, and Nobrega, along with others, repeatedly stabbed Campbell in the chest, face, and legs. Two of Campbell’s relatives witnessed the attack and later provided testimony.

Representing the state were attorneys Muntaz Ali and Christopher Belfield, while Ronald Bostwick defended Nobrega and Carter, who had both pleaded not guilty to the murder charge.

The trial began earlier this week and concluded with a unanimous guilty verdict for both defendants.
