Nineteen-year-old Serena Samuels appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday charged with embezzling more than $1.4 million from her employer, Beacon Roti, located on Sheriff Street, Georgetown.
Samuels is accused of stealing a total of 1,461,310 on the following days:
– March 14, 2024: $189,500
– March 15, 2024: $76,940
– March 16, 2024: $43,760
– March 19, 2024: $173,600
– March 22, 2024: $91,470
– March 23, 2024: $241,910
– March 24, 2024: $141,420
– March 28, 2024: $71,720
– March 30, 2024: $160,000
– March 31, 2024: $13,410 and $89,520
– April 2, 2024: $168,400
When questioned by Magistrate McGusty, Samuels stated that she hoped to repay her employer after securing a new job. The prosecution highlighted the severity of the charges, which carry a potential 14-year prison sentence.
Given the total amount involved and the penalties for embezzlement, bail was set at $50,000 per charge, amounting to $600,000. Reporting conditions were also attached, and the case has been adjourned.
