The two men allegedly involved in the staged multi-million-dollar robbery — Paramdeo Victor of Rosignol and Cornell Taylor of Ithaca, West Berbice — were charged and placed before the court yesterday.

The police said in a statement that they were charged with simple larceny. Victor was slapped with an additional charge of making a false report.

At about 10 yesterday, both accused appeared at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Allan Wilson, where they were not required to enter a plea. The Virtual Complainant  requested to offer no evidence against the accused since he was provided with the remaining sum of $2,150,000. How-ever, the Magistrate granted bail in the sum of $150,000 and the matter was adjourned to 2024/12/13 so that legal advice can be obtained from the DPP.

In relation to the charge of making a false report,  Victor appeared at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Wilson. He pleaded guilty and was fined $30,000 or an alternative of 18 months imprisonment.

Victor was arrested on Thursday after he confessed to faking a robbery to steal $10m from a jeweller who had hired him to transport the cash from Georgetown to Berbice.
