In a rain-affected game, Trinidad & Tobago Red Force middle-order batsman Amir Jangoo hit a brilliant maiden List-A century to help his team defeat the Guyana Harpy Eagles by 45 runs after the game had been reduced to 45 overs a side.

Playing at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad, the hosts were sent into bat by Harpy Eagles skipper Tevin Imlach. Despite the early loss of opener Tion Webster, Jangoo, batting at number three, struck up vital partnerships with Kjorn Ottley and Jyd Goolie to help their side to 288/3 from 45 overs. Jangoo made 111 from 114 balls, striking 10 fours and a pair of sixes before he got out.

He shared a second wicket partnership of 149 runs with Webster, who made 66 (86 balls, 4sx7) and a third wicket partnership of 66 with Goolie. The latter finished unbeaten with a brisk 68 from 51 balls, inclusive of eight fours and a couple of sixes. The bowlers found the going tough, with Keemo Paul, Ronaldo Alimohamed, and Nial Smith getting a wicket each.

The Harpy Eagles target was further revised to 247 from 39 overs, and things did not go their way as only Kemol Savory stood tall with the bat making an unbeaten 69 as their overs expired with them still needing 45 runs to draw level with the revised total. The Guyanese ended on 201/7 from their 39 overs as the Red Force bowling attack maintained a stranglehold on the Guyana Harpy Eagles batsmen.

In fact, only two other batters other than Savory got past 20. Alimohamed made 21 while Kevlon Anderson got 32 in a losing effort. Spinner Bryan Charles returned 2-40 from his 9 overs to lead the attack, while Anderson Phillips’ 2-37 (6 overs) played a supporting role. Khary Pierre, Yannic Cariah, and Jason Mohamed took a wicket each in a complete bowling performance from the Trinidadians.

The Harpy Eagles will desperately need a win over the West Indies Academy in their next game on Monday at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba.
