Royals, Kwakwani advance following easy wins

Victory Valley Royals and Kwakwani Untouchables recorded dominant victories when the Guyana Basketball Federation (GBF) Elite 16 Championship continued on Saturday night at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue.

The Royals thrashed Plaisance Guardians 93-58. Yannick Tappin and Harold Adams combined for 52 points in the lopsided encounter. Tappin tallied 27 points, while Adams amassed 25 points. Chipping in with 10 points was Orlan Glasgow, while the sibling duo of Kobe and Keifer Tappin scored eight points apiece.

For the loser, Enoch Matthew scored 17 points, while Trenton Woolford and Delroy Critchlow scored nine and seven points, respectively.

Likewise, Kwakwani brushed aside Mambas 89-68. Domair Gladstone led the way with 24 points in the victory, while Jamal Gilkes was the next best scorer with 22 points. Adding nine points was Kimol Grimmond.

On the other side, Brandon Bento recorded 16 points, while Jared Sears, Jonathan Pooran, and Samuel Thompson scored 12, 11, and 10 points, respectively.

The winner of the event, which continues on Wednesday and Thursday at the same location, will receive $300,000 and the championship trophy, while the second and third-place finishers will walk away with $100,000 and $50,000, respectively, and the corresponding accolade. On the individual side, the most valuable player will pocket $25,000.

The semifinals will occur on November 23rd, with the final pencilled for the 30th.
