A 60-year-old man was yesterday remanded to prison at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on a charge of attempting to murder his partner at their 142 El Dorado Avenue, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown home.
Keith Williams appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty where it is alleged that on November 10 he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Deanna Bourne with intent to murder her. He was not required to plead and was remanded to prison until December 18th.
According to the prosecutor, the accused and Bourne have been in a common-law relationship for the past 42 years and living in the same house. On the day in question, November 10th, Bourne was at home when the accused came home.
She refused to open the door for him. The accused’s relative eventually opened the door for him and he entered the house, went to the bedroom where his partner was sleeping, woke her up and an argument ensued. Williams then left the room and went to his motorcar where he allegedly took out a cutlass and returned to the bedroom and chopped his partner about her body and face. He attempted to flee the scene with the cutlass in his hands but was stopped by public- spirited citizens, the court was told.
The police and the ambulance were summoned. Bourne was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital and remains there in a critical condition.
