Dear Editor,
Driving at nights is becoming so much more difficult and unpleasant because majority of vehicle owners are replacing their original headlights with these white & sometimes blue LED headlights. These lights are a driving hazard, they are just too bright! And their aim and the colour of their light makes the glare worse. When these lights are coming towards you, or if you are sitting at a stoplight with them facing you or behind you in your rearview mirror, you are blinded and it makes it very difficult for you to maneuver on the roadways to avoid danger to yourself as well as other road users.
It is becoming a constant frustration and I find myself becoming very annoyed daily. Imagine some of these drivers have the audacity to turn on these lights at full beam when approaching you in oncoming traffic, having no regards or consideration for you whatsoever, completely ignoring one of the “C’s”. What I would like to know is, didn’t the Police deemed these LED lights illegal? So then why are they so readily available at most automobile and auto spares store? I do hope the Guyana Police Force along with the relevant authorities can address this issue and help to make the roadways at nights a bit more comfortable and safe for all road users.
Sincerely,
Christine Lacon
