With the MVP Sports Girl’s Pee Wee U-11 Football Championship set to commence on Saturday, tournament coordinators, the Petra Organisation, conducted a ball distribution exercise yesterday at the National Library to aid in their respective preparation.

Each school in attendance received a ball.

Meanwhile, Guyana Beverage Incorporated (GBI) confirmed their partnership in the tournament via its Koolkidz brand.

Troy Mendonca, Co-Director of the Petra Organisation, commended the teachers and coaches for their continued support in making this event a reality, adding that the tournament has produced several players who have transitioned to the national programme which underscores its continued importance.

He thanked the company for their timely gesture, noting that support from corporate Guyana is required to provide the avenues for the development of sport, especially the female component.

Meanwhile, Earl Higgins, Competition Coordinator of the GBI, praised the organisation for its commitment to the development of football at the grassroots level.

The event, which will be hosted at the Ministry of Education ground on Carifesta Avenue, will utilise an initial group stage format.

The confirmed teams are: One Mile, St. John the Baptist, Batavia, Potaro, Friendship, Genesis, Waramuri, School of the Nations, Smith Memorial Primary, Stella Marris, Tucville, West Ruimveldt, Georgetown International Academy (GIA), North Georgetown, F.E. The winner of the event will receive $100,000 towards a project, trophies, and medals. On the other hand, the second, third, and fourth place finishers will receive $75,000, $50,000, and $25,000 towards an initiative and the corresponding accolade.
