Dominic Gaskin to work with President to expand overseas market access for jewellers

Former APNU+AFC Minister of Business and veteran jeweller Dominic Gaskin is to work with  President Irfaan Ali to roll out a project here that would see local jewellers maximizing opportunities to reach  new regional and global markets.

The son in-law of former President David Granger, Gaskin made clear that he stands by his word that he would not re-enter party politics and sees his input as an apolitical development, one that would bring needed skillsets and opportunities to local jewellers.

“Tomorrow I am meeting with Mr. Gaskin and he will be working with me. You know we wanted to build out the gold industry. How can we build a digital market for what we are known for centuries in this market – good gold? And [we will] have all the goldsmiths approach this industry by adopting standards, minimum standards. So by adopting the minimum standards, we now give them a platform through which they can access the global market. That is the project,” President Irfaan Ali on Wednesday announced during a sit-down interview with selected female journalists at the Office of the President, for the first episode of his ‘In the Seat’ broadcast.
