Pedestrian, 79, dies after struck by tractor at Hampton Court

Seventy-nine-year-old Girdhardan Singh died yesterday at around 5:30 pm on the Hampton Court Public Road in Region Two after he was struck by a tractor.

The  tractor with registration number 15953, owned by Deepan Odhoo of Hampton Village, Essequibo Coast, was being driven by Zheed Smad of Hampton Court. 

According to reports, the tractor was traveling south in the eastern lane at approximately 20 kilometers per hour when the driver noticed a pedestrian crossing from the eastern side of the road. As the pedestrian reached the centre of the road, he unexpectedly turned back and walked into the tractor’s path.

He then fell on the road, at which point the tractor came to a stop. Singh sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the Oscar Joseph District Hospital by the driver and residents. Despite receiving medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries. 

His body has been taken to the Charity mortuary for a post-mortem examination. Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
