The Sustainable Wildlife Management (SWM) Programme has announced the launch of its new component aimed at enhancing biodiversity monitoring in Guyana.
The official launch event took place on November 13th in Georgetown, gathering key stakeholders from across the country, a release from the Programme said.
Over the next two years, this Biodiversity Component will be implemented in the Rupununi region of Guyana. It seeks to develop a cost effective method to evaluate biodiversity, integrating local knowledge with innovative scientific tools and methodologies. It will also promote community-based monitoring efforts, thereby strengthening the capacities of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities. Among those in attendance was René van Nes, Ambassador of the European Union’s (EU) Delegation in Guyana, whose organization is funding the programme.
