Police are probing an accident which occurred at about 10.10 pm on Thursday on the #61 Village Public Road in Corentyne, Berbice that resulted in the death of Mark Autar, a 41-year-old man.
The incident involved motor car HC 2918 driven by Autar of Lot 13 Section ‘A’ #71 Village, Corentyne. Autar also had a photo identification in the name of Zaman Ali, the police say.
Enquiries disclosed that the car was proceeding south along the eastern drive lane on the #61 Village public road at a fast rate when he lost control of the vehicle and collided with a GPL pole on the side of the road.
As a result of the collision, the driver was pinned inside the vehicle and was later taken out of the car with the assistance of public-spirited citizens in an unconscious condition and taken to the Skeldon Public Hospital where he was seen and pronounced dead on arrival.
The body is at the Skeldon Public Hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
