Two cops still to be charged over Giftland abduction

Two serving Guyana Police Force members are to be charged after the Regional Police Division Commander, Simon McBean, receives a “technical response” on Kevin Fiedtkou’s abduction.

McBean told reporters on Thursday that the GPF is awaiting a “technical response” about the charges against the two officers implicated in the kidnapping at Giftland. The response was expected by the end of Thursday or yesterday, and once obtained, the ranks will be taken before the court.

“We are waiting a technical response as it relates to the charges which I was informed of this morning and we should have that by the end of today or tomorrow and as soon as we have that, they will be placed before the court”, he said.

Fiedtkou reported that at approximately 12:30 pm on October 10, three men forcibly detained him in the mall’s compound, then transported him to his home at Providence, East Bank Demerara. There, he handed over $9.5 million in cash and his network video recorder. He was not physically harmed.

The men returned the following day in a police vehicle, demanding more money. Fiedtkou complied by handing over additional loose cash before they left.
