Girl, 13, hospitalised after hit by car

A 13-year-old girl is currently hospitalised after sustaining injuries in an incident that occurred around 20:00 hrs on Saturday, on Dennis Street, Sophia in the vicinity of Section ‘C’ Field access road.

According to a police press release, the incident involved motor car #PXX 8265, driven by 21-year-old Timothy King of ‘B’ Field, South Sophia and the 13-year-old, who was a pedestrian.

Enquiries disclosed that the car was proceeding east along the northern drive lane of Dennis Street and as it approached Section ‘C’ Field Access Road, the girl crossed the road from south to north, from behind a car that was on the southern drive lane, the release said. She ended up in the path of PXX 8265 and was hit.

As a result, the police said, she fell onto the windshield of the car, then onto the road surface. She was picked up in a conscious condition by the driver and public-spirited citizens and transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she was admitted. She is currently receiving treatment for head injuries, and her condition is regarded as stable, the release said.

It added that the driver is in police custody assisting with the investigation.
