Nabaclis man remanded on robbery charge

Junior Lilly

A 23-year-old self-employed man was remanded to prison last week on a charge of robbery. It is alleged that Junior Lilly stole a gold chain from a passenger in a minibus.

Lilly, of Lot 29 Section ‘B’ Nabaclis, East Coast Demerara, appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore to answer to the robbery charge where it is alleged that on November 4th, he stole a gold chain worth $200,000 from Peggy Wayde. He pleaded not guilty and was remanded to prison until December 9, 2024.

According to the prosecutor, on November 4, Lilly joined a Route 44 bus at Camp Street. When the bus stopped at the intersection of Lamaha and Cummings streets and while Lilly was exiting the bus, he grabbed the woman’s chain. Wayde raised an alarm. Lilly was later arrested by the police and was positively identified by the victim. In response to the allegation, Lilly initially told the court he did not know how it happened.
