The inaugural Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC) Harmony League T10 Tape-Ball Tournament bowled off in electrifying fashion on Sunday at the Transport Sports Club, Georgetown, treating fans to a day of action-packed cricket.

Four teams – Success Strike Force, I.B.S, Kings, and The Other Guys – emerged victorious in the opening round of the straight knockout tournament.

The tournament opener was marked by some stunning individual displays, with The Other Guys’ Brian Sookram stealing the show. Sookram’s blistering unbeaten 83 off just 28 balls, featuring six towering sixes and eight boundaries, powered his team to a dominant victory.

Meanwhile, I.B.S star Ryan Bagwandin etched his name in the history books as the tournament’s first half-centurion, smashing a dazzling 60 from 24 balls, studded with six fours and five sixes. Kings’ Ryan Latiff also impressed with an all-round performance, scoring an unbeaten 26 and claiming two wickets to help his team advance.

The Harmony League resumes next weekend with matches scheduled across East Coast Demerara, Georgetown, and East Bank Essequibo. The penultimate matchday is set for November 30, leading to the grand finale on December 8.

Designed to bring communities together, the ERC has ensured free entry for both players and spectators. The tournament offers a grand prize of $500,000 for the winners, $250,000 for the runners-up, and $100,000 each for the semi-finalists. Additionally, individual awards worth $60,000 will be presented for achievements like Most Runs, Most Wickets, and Man of the Final, with trophies provided by Trophy Stall.

Beyond the competition, the ERC aims to foster goodwill and strengthen community bonds across Guyana through this event. With its focus on inclusivity and entertainment, the tournament has already made an impactful start in achieving its mission.
