In much the same way that both international and domestic public awareness undertakings were launched, both locally and globally, to send a message to the rest of the world that Guyana was on its way to executing an oil recovery undertaking that was expected to eventually bring a c-change to the country’s development profile, so too, is its South American neighbour and fellow Caribbean Community member country, Suriname. Earlier this week, the energy news source, Oil Now, disclosed that the country will be staging its Suriname Awareness Symposium, a sign that the country is moving into its first offshore oil development phase.
A November 19 disclosure by the petro news source announced that Paramaribo will be staging its Suriname Awareness Symposium 2025 (SAS2025) in January which the Oil Now release says aims to help “build Suriname’s future through the development of the energy sector.” According to the Oil Now report, the notion of an “Awareness” event arose out of an idea mooted by two participants at a major energy conference in Paramaribo who “recognized a pressing need to raise awareness among key stakeholders about creating local content opportunities, promoting alignment and collaboration, and driving economic diversification.” It was out of this ‘think in,’ reportedly, that the idea of an “Awareness” event emerged.
The Oil Now release named IIeana Ferber, a Local Content subject matter specialist to coordinate the event. Disclosures from the forum also named SAS Founder, Vanessa Yacoob, as one of the prime movers behind the forum. Also named among its ‘strategic partners’ in the exercise is the African Energy Chamber (AEC) an advocacy that focuses on promoting the interests of the African energy sector, particularly in oil and gas.
